R&D Engineering Specialist for Packaging Equipment
The Nestlé Product Technology Centre Coffee (NPTC Coffee) is the leading R&D organization that discovers, develops and deploys coffee and beverage products and technologies for in-home and out-of-home consumption. It consists of units in Konolfingen (CH), Marysville (USA), Orbe (CH) and Singapore and provides new products and processes to all Nestlé markets worldwide.

Position Summary
As the R&D Engineering Specialist for Packaging Equipment, you will play a pivotal role in defining and establishing, in collaboration with a dedicated project team, the success criteria, timelines, and deliverables for the implementation of new packaging equipment in the production lines of our Nescafé soluble coffee. You will lead the development and coordination of trials, manage international supplier relationships, and oversee Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) as well as start-up activities.
In addition, you will be responsible for defining User Requirement Specifications (URS), technical specifications, and the engineering dossier, while also contributing to comprehensive project documentation.
In this role, you will support factories worldwide, providing global-scale assistance, enabling you to engage with colleagues around the world and ultimately ensure excellence in the production of our Nescafé soluble coffee.
A Day in the Life of a R&D Engineering Specialist for Packaging Equipment
- Lead technical projects to design and deploy new machines & equipment for Nescafé soluble coffee packaging lines, ensuring best-in-class key performance indicators (safety, quality, total delivery cost)
- Provide technical assistance to the markets/CTAG on the installation of new lines, as well as on reliability issues of current lines
- Lead the scouting and development of packaging lines with internal networks, external partners, and suppliers
- Oversee suppliers, evaluate technical solutions, and collaborate to achieve optimal outcomes
- Identify opportunities for patentable technologies and processes
- Support industrialization start-ups, follow-up with product launches, including technical assistance to manufacturing sites
- Manage knowledge building and knowledge transfer to different Nestlé sites.
What will make you successful
- Background in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field
- Extensive experience in validation, development, and implementation of new packaging equipment, ideally in Operations and R&D
- Experience in manufacturing support in production lines
- Ability to coordinate proactively and cross-functionally in a project team.
- Willingness to travel internationally up to 40% of the time to visit suppliers and factories.
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
- Full business proficiency in English; proficiency in any other language is an asset
