Description

Le Régent International School is seeking a dedicated and dynamic University Guidance Counsellor to lead and enhance our careers and university guidance programme for Secondary and Senior (IB) students. This is a unique full-time position, focused solely on student support, without the additional responsibility of teaching. Our counsellors play a key role in shaping the futures of our diverse and ambitious students, helping them navigate university applications and career paths worldwide.

The Role

Key Responsibilities include:

Proactively meet with students to discuss and advise on university and career options, both 1:1 and in group settings
Manage students’ applications and documents required for registration to universities to US and international universities and post-graduation plans, including gap years, foundation years, and apprenticeships - including transcripts, predicted grades, references - within application deadlines
Write references and letters of recommendation for university applications and summer programs
Present career counselling classes and university/career-related workshops to students from Grades 9 to 12 (IB2) on topics such as US/UK applications, applying to Medicine, writing Common App essays and CVs
Advise and edit numerous drafts of students’ application essays
Hold meetings with parents and students’ agents as required
Provide guidance in student choices of IB subjects
Coordinate internal university fairs, visits, and information sessions
Maintain contact with university admissions representatives
Travel to university events
Manage student academic transcripts
Help manage SAT preparation courses and hosting SAT/ACT exams at Le Régent
Keep up to date with university applications through research and university visits and professional contacts
Keep public-facing information and documentation up to date, including the Le Régent School profile
Work with the other University & Careers Guidance Counsellor(s)

Relevant Professional Qualifications and Skills

The selection committee will accord particular value to the following qualifications and skills:

Experience in international university admissions, particularly in the US university system
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
Excellent clerical and organisational skills
Ability to prioritise work and manage multiple deadlines
Familiarity with the IB Diploma Programme (desirable)
Experience with living abroad (desirable)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The successful candidate is entitled to 4 weeks of vacation per year (5 weeks for employees aged 50 and over), plus an additional 2 weeks in compensation for the official holidays in the Canton of Valais.
